POOLE V LIONS, PREVIEW

Leicester travel to Dorset on Monday where they will face Poole who are one of speedway’s powerhouse teams.

The Pirates are the most successful club of the modern era having won the Elite League title five times in the last eight years. Their Wimborne Road track has not been a happy hunting ground for the Paul Chapman and Sons Lions who have not won there in four previous visits but an upturn in form lately has given the team renewed confidence.

“Our recent form away from home has improved. We have picked up match points from two of our last four fixtures and ran the home side close in the other two. However hard you look Poole don’t appear to have a weak link in their side and few teams get the better of them at home but we proved at Belle Vue that we are capable of raising our performance so we will approach the match with the same attitude and see where it takes us” explained the Lions Team Manager, Norrie Allan.

The Pirates are currently one place below the play-offs but have matches in hand over the four teams above them and when the clubs last met at Leicester in May the match ended in a 46-46 draw. Both clubs are expected to be at full strength for the match on Monday that sees two riders on each side in opposition against their former clubs. Bjarne Pedersen and Krzysztof Buczkowski had brief spells at Leicester whereas Paul Starke was a key member of the Pirates championship winning team last season and Ludvig Lindgren gained a cup winners medal four years ago.
